POWER SECTOR REFORMS
The Electricity Act, 2003 provides an enabling frame work for
accelerated and more efficient development of the power sector in a professional and
independent manner and mandates the restructuring of the existing system. The reforms are
expected to result in availability of quality supply of electricity to consumers at
With the in-principle approval granted by the Government of Puducherry, the Electricity
Department had started the reforms process in the right earnest. The consultant had
submitted the roadmap for corporatization of the Electricity Department. The final report
is now uploaded in this department's web site for suggestions / objections along
with a public notice as below:
GOVERNMENT OF PUDUCHERRY

WHEREAS, the Government of Puducherry has taken an
in-principle decisions communicated vide G.O.Ms.No.31 dated 19.09.2008, to
corporatize the Electricity Department of Puducherry in line with the
requirements of the Electricity Act,2003.
WHEREAS, M/s KPMG Advisory
Services Limited, Chennai were appointed as the consultants to draw up a
roadmap for the Corporatization of the Department. The consulting firm has submitted the final report.
The report has been placed before the Government for taking a final decision in the matter.

AND WHEREAS the Hon'ble Commission has now
directed the Department to publish the Final Report on the Roadmap to Corporatization in the Official
web site of the Department, calling upon stakeholders to send in
their suggestions/objections to the JERC. Accordingly, the final report has now been uploaded in the
